Filter tips - stability and protection

Filter tips are thin, wide with or without perforation, made of cardboard, meerschaum or activated carbon as disposable or reusable products - but what are they good for?

The use of filter tips makes sense for more than one reason: The practical filters stabilize the end of a cigarette and prevent your joint from collapsing when you are inhaling from it. They also keep ash or tobacco residue from sticking to your lips and hinder them from even being inhaled. In addition, good filters for building cigarettes often have an extra layer of activated carbon that filters out excess tar and condensate from the smoke before those harmful substances can enter your lungs.
